Personal Childhood Web

These are some people that cared and nutured me in my childhood:

1. Mom- My mother was always very active in my education.  She would volunteer in my classroom, attend my awards assemblies and always take me and my sister to the library.  After doctor visits she would take me to the store to pick something for being so brave. Her love and support has made me into the caring person I am today.

2. Dad- My father was very supportive in my education as well.  He would always tell me to do my best.  He taught me the value of hard work and the importance of family.  He made it a priority to make sure we always had dinner together as a family.  He definitely influenced my work ethic, he is the hardest working person I know.

3. Sister- My little sister taught me the importance of sharing.  We would play store, restaurant and school in our younger years.  As we grew older I took my role as a big sister more and more seriously.  I would take care of her and make sure she always did her homework.  Now I feel like she takes care of me.  We have grown so close and I look to her for advice a lot.  She is my best friend.

4. Aunt- My tia married into the family and became such an adored person in our family.  The love and support she gave to everyone was welcomed and appreciated.  She was a teacher prior to her marriage.  She had 5 children of her own who all went to college and all work in child therapy and teaching.  I know I can always count on her to be there for me.

5. Grandma- My abuelita helped my mother take care of me when I was a baby.  I have very fond memories of going to her house after school every day.  She always encouraged our studies and always made sure we ate something.  She loved cooking and feeding everyone.  My grandmother passed away 3 years ago but she has a special place in my heart.  I always think about her when I cook, I even make her dishes when I miss her and they make me happy.  I never met my dad’s mother, she passed away when I was a baby so I really cherished my relationship with my grandma.

A Drawing

I chose to share this drawing because to me it really represents a child's imagination.  Everything from the wheels, the size and it's incredible height shows a child's need to dream.

Welcome

Hello everyone. Welcome to my first ever blog! I would like to start by telling you a little about myself.

My name is Rosana Covarrubias and I live in California.  I attended the University of California, Santa Cruz where I earned a Bachelors Degree in art.  I work with small groups of students and build on their skills to support them in struggling areas. I have also worked as an English Language Development teacher and as an after school program instructor where I had the chance to teach art.

When I am not working I like to spend time visiting my family.  There we have 2 black labs that I enjoy playing with.  I love music, specifically the rock genre. I enjoy going to concerts, reading, drinking tea, drawing, traveling, watching movies, cooking, and believe it or not cleaning.  I am also a big Oakland Athletics fan and love going to baseball games.

I started this blog for my Masters Degree Program in Early Childhood Studies at Walden University.  I am looking forward to my educational and professional journey and getting to know, as well as collaborating, with my colleagues.
