“In order to understand how culture
may influence children’s development teachers must understand their own
identity formation in terms of culture, race, language, privilege and
power. In addition, their ability to
understand children’s cultural knowledge, the implications of it for teaching
and learning, and how to teach through it, are critical particularly in light
of changing demographics.” -Dr. Aisha Ray

Great quotes, Rosana. I particularly love the quote from Dr. Aisha Ray. I think kids are increasingly coming from all types of backgrounds, cultures, and family structures. It is becoming more and more important for educators to really understand where their kids are coming from in order to effectively reach them and make a difference.
ReplyDeleteThis quotes are so inspirational. I love how Aisha Ray brings out the fact that what reflection we must do must first start from within our own selves. We must first identify our own abilities and inabilities to take ownership of culture as we know it and broaden our sense of what culture is by being accepting to others around us through the changing lens of the world. You Rosana have selected some great quotes.
ReplyDeleteRosana,
ReplyDeleteI love the saying "great kids coming all varieties" I think that goes back to all of the children learn differently and that is our job as educators is to see that they can learn in a nurturing learning environment.
